Eric Bailly ‘openly challenged’ Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for picking injured Maguire

Eric Bailly challenged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's decision to start Harry Maguire despite him being not fully fit for the Leicester fixture.

Eric Bailly has challenged his manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for picking an injured Harry Maguire ahead of other defenders for their 4-2 defeat against Leicester earlier this month. The United skipper was down with a calf injury for three weeks and was immediately put in the starting lineup despite not being at his 100 percent.

Leicester City pounced on the mistakes from the skipper and came out with a comeback victory which continued their winless streak in the Premier League.

Eric Bailly’s frustrations are understandable, given the fact that the Ivorian defender has not at all in the Premier League this season. He has made just a single appearance which came in the League Cup fixture.

According to reports from The Telegraph, Bailly subsequently challenged Solskjaer about his decision and asked the United manager ‘why he picked a centre-half who was not fit’.

Van De beek with Solskjaer

The report also claimed that some members of the squad have accused Solskjaer of ‘favouritism’ and have questioned why both Donny van de Beek and Jesse Lingard have been few chances to make an impact this season.

Donny Van de Beek and Lingard have never fully earned the trust of the manager despite playing well whenever they were given the chance to display their potential. Lingard even scored the late winner against West Ham but could not force his way into the starting lineup.

Manchester United suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat against eternal rivals Liverpool which has spurred on many calls to replace the man in charge to improve the results. And now with questions having started inside the dressing room itself, it remans to be seen how long Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains at the club.
