France National team's squad for EURO 2020

After heartbreak in the finals against Portugal in Euro 2016, France are back here to contest for the coveted title. The team has looked after every aspect and filled every position with big names. Here is a preview of the famous “EURO 2020 France” Squad ahead of the major international tournament after the pandemic.

Euro 2020 France Preview

Didier Deschamps has selected the side with winners and runners-up of various tournaments. The manager has also re-called Karim Benzema who missed the major sporting tournaments, Euro 2016 and World Cup 2018. France start the tournament as one of the favorites despite starting the tournament in Group F.

France squad is loaded with midfield maestros all across the top five European Leagues. Paul Pogba and N Golo Kante bossed midfield in the second half of the English Premier League and will hope to continue their fine form. If France go on to win Euro 2020, N Golo Kante has a possibility to win his first ever Balon d’Or.

Key Players for France

Kante will have a big role to play for France in EURO 2020 after a Champions League triumph

France has one of the best forwards and generational talent, Kylian Mbappe, at their disposal. Along with Mbappe, they have Ousmane Dembele and Olivier Giroud to provide the required depth. However, Kylian Mbappe‘s fine form will hold the key to France’s aspirations. In 31 league appearances for PSG, Mbappe had 27 goals in the 2020/21 season.

The man with huge lungs, N Golo Kante is on the back of the Champions League victory with Chelsea. He bossed the midfield against Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City and Deschamps hopes the player to repeat the performance for France as well.

Though France’s defence looks a bit light in the absence of experienced professionals, Raphael Varane will have to up his tempo for the national team. Varane has not been at his best in the La Liga for a while but still, he will be the best for his side in Euro 2020.

EURO 2020 France: Group Stage

France, one of the most settled sides, are placed alongside Hungary, Germany and Portugal in Group F. Group F is considered as “Group of Death” and France needs to be on top of their game to qualify for the next stage. France will face Germany in the first game of the campaign on 15th June in Munich. They will face Hungary and Portugal in the subsequent matches on 19th June and 24th June in Budapest.

If France can win Group F, they will play their round of 16 in Bucharest against the third-placed side from Group A or Group B or Group C. If they come second, France will face the winner of Group D in Dublin.

France Chances at EURO 2020

France need a great start to the tournament if they are to proceed to the latter stages of the tournament. They are placed in the “Group of Death” and will have to finish in the top three, accumulating maximum points compared to other sides, if not in the top two. If they are able to go past the group stage and qualify for the knockouts, they have the firepower to go all the way.
