Italy, having already secured their knockout qualification in this summer’s Euro 2020, have now also topped their group A with a 1-0 win over Wales at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Mateo Pessina put the Azzurris ahead in the 39th minute when he tucked home a low and fine set piece from Verratti, beyond the reach of Welsh goalkeeper Danny Ward. Wales were reduced to 10 men in the 55th minute when Ethan Ampadu was shown a straight red as we caught Bernardeschi with a stamp, as match official Hategan deeming it as dangerous play. Bale missed a glorious chance from close range to equalise as Wales failed to muster up an equaliser late on.

Looked good and tirelessly ran up and down to help his team in both attacking and defensive fronts.

Constantly bothered Bale and rendered null his threat. Was solid before being subbed off at half time.

Came in for Chiellini in this match and made his mark. Offered very little space to the Welsh attackers.

Was good in the first half, constantly pushing forward but his workrate died down at the end.

Dominant midfield game and constantly supplied the frontline. Eye for a pass and ball retention was good.

Italy could do much with his stamina. Found himself at the other end of the low set piece as he Volleyed it to the far corner fine and low.

Excellent low and inviting set piece to find Pessina. Creative in the midfield and controlled the tempo of the match.

Constant threat down the right flank, and exploited spaces behind the Welsh defence. Unlucky not to have found the net.

Brilliant hold up play by the Torino main man. Had a few chances but unfortunately couldn’t score. Threatened the opposition’s defensive third often.

Bright and creative. Struck the post in the first half with a free-kick.

Made some decent stops in the game, but was caught in some tense situations with the ball at his feet.

Looked decent, tried his best to keep the Italian attack at bay. Was shown a rather ambiguous red card after he stamped Bernardeschi unintentionally.

Was exploited by Chiesa continuosly, as he offered much space to him out wide.

Lost the ball sometimes and Italy continuosly threatened from his side, as we was largely engaged in his own half with very minimum attacking output.

Couldn’t mark Pessina properly which resulted in the first goal. Lost possession frequently and looked blunt.

Commited three fouls, continuosly overrun by the Italian midfield. Bad shift.

Often left exposed by Chiesa and Toloi. Had some decent moments while trying to attack.

Was continuously hindered and bothered by Bonucci. Volleyed wide from close range which was the best Wales had got.

Couldn’t make good use when used in a rather unusual position.
