The ball has been set rolling for the European Championships this summer, as Italy and Turkey play the first game of the EURO 2020.
The Group A fixture has started with Italy making most of the play and Turkey defending with large numbers at the back. The Azurris however, have finally found the back of the net, to score the first goal of the European Championships.
Ciro Immobile and Insigne extend the lead for the Azzuris in Turkey vs Italy
Italy pass the ball around in the midfield as Nico Barella feeds it onto Berardi who moves into the box, courtesy of a slip from the Turkish defender. He crosses it infield into the danger area, and Merih Demiral in an attempt to clear the ball puts it into his own net. The first goal of the EURO 2020 comes as a own-goal in the 52nd minute of the match.
The Italians have made their dominance count in the second half of the match and doubled their lead on the hour mark to fully fixate their grip on the match. It all comes through the left-back Spazzinola who moves into the penalty box and lets fly. The Turkish keeper is unable to hold onto the ball and it falls for Immobile. The striker is perfectly poised and pokes it home to make it 2-0 for the Italians.
Lorenzo Insigne slots in Italy’s third goal of the match in the 80th minute of the match to triple Italy’s lead over the Turks in their opening match. It all leads from a mistake from Turkey who look down and out in the dying stages of the match.
The scorer of the second goal, Ciro Immobile finds Insigne in plenty of space in the penalty box and the forward makes no mistake in putting it past Unai Cakir in goal. The match is all but over for the Turks and they should look to maintain the scoreline in the final minutes of the match.
