Ferland Mendy requests for a pay raise at Real Madrid, ahead of new season
Real Madrid’s first choice left-back Ferland Meny has requested the club for an improved contract, before the start of the next season. The French international had an impressive season at Los Blancos and cemented his spot under Zinedine Zidane.
However, in what will come as bad news for the French defender, the club are reportedly not too keen on the idea as they look to bring in players and finances are tough at the Madrid capital. Mendy is currently undergoing rehabilitation, after missing out on a ticket to EURO 2020, following an injury.
Real Madrid are going through a financial crisis and would not agree to such a request
According to Marca, Mendy’s 45 million euro value upon completing his move to the Spanish capital has now increased to 50m euros, as he has established himself as a pivotal member of the starting XI at the expense of Marcelo. Ferland Mendy made 38 appearances for Real Madrid last season and scored an important Champions League goal against Atalanta in the Quarter-Final stages.
Carlo Ancelotti, the new manager at Real Madrid has been a long fan of the left-back and he will be a guaranteed starter for the club next season. Hence, the defender sees this as an opportunity to seek an improved contract, despite his current deal ending in 2025, 4 years from now.
The problem for Real Madrid is the financial crisis they find themselves in, a problem that has forced them to reduce the contracts of many of the big-names in the squad. That will make things difficult for Mendy, but clearly, it is not going to stop him from asking as we head into the summer transfer break.
