The Golden Boot is an award presented by FIFA to the top goal scorer in a single world cup campaign. The award was first given in the 1982 Spain edition. Italian striker Paolo Rossi won the award scoring six goals from 7 games, and Italy went on to win the competition beating Germany 3-1 in the finals.
Harry Kane, is the latest one to win the golden boot, he won in 2018 by scoring 6 goals as England finished fourth in the competition. Along with Harry Kane, Argentina superstar Lionel Messi, Portugal talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, Brazilian Neymar Jr and French attacker Kylian Mbappe are the five favorites to win the golden boot in Qatar this year.
5. Kylian Mbappe
The young French sensation Kylian Mbappe is the youngest ever player to score in a FIFA World Cup final, as he scored twice against Croatia in 2018. The reigning champions France rely heavily on Mbappe this term, as they look to win the back-to-back trophy. The Paris Saint Germain striker is in stunning form this season in all competitions.
With Benzema and Mbappe together upfront, France is the heavy favorite to win the competition again this term. His unique abilities in the ground has always let the audience in wonder. He can also play the center as a main striker due to his clinical finishing and unexceptional goal scoring techniques.

One of the greatest footballers of all time Cristiano Ronaldo is playing his last World Cup in Qatar this year. With five Ballon d’Or and four European golden shoe awards to his name, one golden boot will be more than a jewel in his crown. He has scored 117 goals across 192 matches for the National Team, and he is the highest goal scorer at the international level.
Ronaldo had joined the International team and played for the time at the age of 18 in 2003. He had since then been a prolific player for the team and had got 190 caps making him the most capped player in Portugal. As a captain he had also led the team their first major title, Euro 2016.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner and Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi is also on to his last world Cup campaign as his companion Cristiano Ronaldo. The 2014 World Cup Golden ball winner has been in one of his best forms this season. As Argentina stays first in the favorites list among all teams, all eyes are on Messi and his team’s performance.
He also has the record the highest number of appearances for the Argentina National Football Team and is also the all-time goal scorer for the country. He had led the team into the finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Copa America 2015 and 2016. He had also won the Golden Boot in 2015.
These are the top five favorites who have a high chance of winning the very esteemed Golden Boot this year. These players have proved their worth throughout their careers and all the winners are enough deserving of the award. The FIFA World Cup 2022 is very much awaited and prestigious for the same reason.
