“I can probably count on one hand how many times I’ve seen him in the last many years.

“I worked for Chelsea, which was an absolute pleasure for 13 years. And that’s where I want to leave that one.”

When asked about the situation at Stamford Bridge in general, Frank Lampard went on to admit he cares for his former club given.

He added: “It’s a tough moment for the club. Everton is my priority and we’ve got testing things in front of us but of course on a human level, people that are just doing their jobs and if their jobs are in danger, you care a lot about that.

“We live watching the news every day and understand what’s happening in the world has a bigger perspective than ever. So maybe a contract position that you might have or a free transfer is not the main thing. Maybe it’s what’s going on in the world.”

The sanctions have put a great dent in Chelsea’s long-term and short-term goals, with important players like Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger, set to leave the club. The Blues are now banned from offering new contracts to players or staff, conducting any official transfer business, selling new tickets to any games for any of their teams, including the women’s team and the junior teams, selling merchandise to fans, no stadium redevelopment, spending over 500,000 pounds on security and stewarding per home match and over 20,000 pounds as expenses in away games.

Chelsea boss Tuchel has admitted he had doubts over how his players would react given the uncertainty around the club.

“It would be a lie if I said we I had no doubts but I also had a lot of trust,” Tuchel told BBC Match of the Day after the Blues’ 3-1 win over Norwich at Carrow Road on Thursday night.

“In difficult circumstances, we produced a lot of results and good performances so we can trust in our mentality and the culture in the club. We allowed ourselves to focus on the football.”
