Ghanaian gold mine Billionaire looking to buy Chelsea for 3 Billion Pounds
Ghanian Billionaire Bernard Antwi Boasiako is looking to buy Chelsea FC from current owner Roman Abramovich. Chelsea FC faces a lot of long-term problems because of the freezing of its owner’s assets.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako’s spokesperson told Sportsmail:” Bernard Antwi Boasiako is exploring a potential offer for Chelsea. Discussions with various parties involved in the sale have taken place.”
Boasiko had not addressed the rumors which emerged last week that the gold mine owner was exploring an offer to buy the crisis-stricken Stamford Bridge club, but a spokesman for the African businessman has now confirmed his interest. Boasiako has pledged to bring stability back to Chelsea after confirming to Sportsmail that he is interested in bidding for the club.
The official statement from the prospective Chelsea owner
“Chelsea has a lasting legacy in Africa, players like Didier Drogba and Michael Essien are legends of the club; the opportunity to enhance the club’s reputation in Africa is a very tempting prospect.
“Restoring stability and ensuring there are no job losses are among the priorities. The tycoon has an ’emotional attachment’ to Chelsea, ‘ due to the Blues’ African successes at the Club during the Roman Abramovich era.”
The official statement also stated that:“Chelsea has a lasting legacy in Africa, players like Didier Drogba and Michael Essien are legends of the club; the opportunity to enhance the club’s reputation in Africa is a very tempting prospect. Restoring stability and ensuring there are no job losses are among the priorities.”
It’s true that the Blues have had a lot of success during the past few years with African players. Few African legends who have been at the club are Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, John Obi Mikel, Samuel Eto’o – and most recently Edouard Mendy all playing for the club. He is said to be a particular fan of former Blues midfielder Claude Makelele, who is of Congolese descent.
But it is the fact the 45-year-old has made preserving all employment at Chelsea a priority during a period where there has been huge uncertainty over jobs that could also aid his chances.
It is understood the tycoon has made concrete inquiries with regards to making an offer ahead of Friday’s deadline, with his advisers now working on the viability of any bid.
He remains in contact with a number of London-based consultants ahead of Friday’s bid cut-off.
It remains to be seen whether Boasiako, who will focus on growing the club’s popularity in the lucrative Asian markets, follows through with an official bid – but his interest is now clear.
