“He is worthy of the winning the Ballon D’or again”- Florentino Perez tips Luka Modric for another Ballon D’or after Real Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup triumph
Real Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup for the 12th time in the history of the competition defeating Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in the final on Sunday which took place in Saudi Arabia. Luka Modric and Karim Benzema scored the goals their side. Real booked a place in the final after winning the semi final 3-2 against arch rivals Barcelona in what was an entertaining El Clasico. Spanish Super Cup victory will do tons of good to Real Madrid going forward this season and is surely a welcome trophy for new manager Carlo Ancelotti who took over at the start of the season from Everton for his second spell at Santiago Bernabeau.
Ancelotti’s arrival has really rejuvenated the squad and the players are oozing with confidence. The lethal duo of Karim Benzema and Vinicius junior have combined for 38 goals this in all competitions for the Los Blancos. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was absolutely delighted with the club securing the first silverware of the season on Sunday. The president said that Modric and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois are the best in their position as the latter saved an 89th minute penalty while Luka Modric was once again monumental in the final.
“Without wanting to brag, they’re the best players in the world in their positions.” Florentino said.
He further added that the Croatian is surely worthy of another Ballon D’or trophy. “Modric is in enviable form, it’s worthy of winning the Ballon d’Or again.”

Marcelo is undoubtedly one of the best left backs the football world has ever seen. However with youngster Ferland Mendy keeping him out of the team at the moment, Marcelo did come on as a substitute in the final minutes against Athletic Bilbao and the fans in the stadium greeted him with a standing ovation. Marcelo lifted the Spanish Super Cup and won his 24th title with Real Madrid to equal Paco Gento’s record as a player.
Here is what Florentino Perez said, “Marcelo is a legend, for him to receive an ovation is obvious, and I’m happy he received it in a place with so many Madridistas.”
Real Madrid take on PSG in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 and it is surely going to be their toughest test of the season so far.
