It seems that Jay-Z is not the only rapper interested in buying an active sports team. Hip-hop artist Yo Gotti, signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, has invested in the Major League Soccer team.

Who is Yo Gotti and what is his net worth?

Yo Gotti

The hip-hop artist, originally from Memphis, Tennessee, released his debut album, Youngsta’s On a Come Up, in 1996 when he was just 15 years old. He eventually founded his own record label called Collective Music Group and his sixth album, titled I Am, became the first company to be officially released. That album was the first to get Yo Gotti a gold medal but his subsequent albums, The Art of Hustle and I Still Am, did not repeat that success.

He has had some of the best platinum songs, including the 2015 song “Down in the DM” and “Rake It Up”, both starring Nicki Minaj, as well as “Champions” with Kanye West, Gucci Mane and Big Sean among others.

The hip-hop artist is also said to have invested in real estate for the rest of his career and, according to Sources, his worth about $ 16 million (£ 12m).

Yo Gotti buys stakes of D.C United

According to Sportico, Yo Gotti has reportedly reached an agreement to buy a small stake in Major League Soccer’s D.C. United. The club has an estimated value of $ 730 million.

According to a source familiar with the transaction, the Roc Nation artist buys a little more than 1% of the band. He joins National Football League player Mark Ingram II, who raised $ 710 million in June. In June, DC United announced that the NFL Pro Bowl had returned three times and the Heisman Trophy winner Ingram had joined the Black-and-Red ownership team as an investor.

The Washington Post reported that Yo Gotti would join petroleum executive council Eyob “Joe” Mamo and a few other business people to invest in the group. Expected investments, with the approval of the league, will give the club a 6% stake in DC United.

Last month, Gotti attended the MLS All-Star Game and met with Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber. You are also friends with other D.C. Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan for several years for their investment in the hometown of Yo Gotti’s Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA.
