Indian Super League: Chennaiyin FC sign Polish striker Lukasz Gikiewicz
Chennaiyin FC signs their fifth foreign player for the upcoming ISL (Indian Super League) 21/22 season in the form of the Polish centre-forward. The striker has signed a one-year deal with the club.
“I am very happy to join the club. My aim is to immediately help the team in getting their third ISL title. The fans deserve it so does the club that has won the the league two times already,” said Lukasz.
The Polish international started his senior career with Olimpia Elblag in the year 2007. The 33 year old has featured in both of Europe’s most coveted competitions of all time with appearances in UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Lukasz has also played in Asian countries such as Thailand, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. He also played with Fotbal Club FCSB in Romania and also with Omonia in Cyprus. The 33 year old has scored 49 goals and provided 21 assists in over 200 appearances in his career.He was also the top scorer with Al-Faisaly Amman 2017-18 season in the Jodanian Pro League, and will look to make his mark with Chennaiyin FC in 21/22 Indian Super League season.
Chennaiyin FC head coach had nothing but praise for the 33 year Polish international. “Lukasz is a team player with good experience and a great personality. I believe he will help the team in many aspects, especially with goals,” Bozidar Bandovic said as quoted by India today.
Chennaiyin FC co-owner Vita Dani had nothing but high praise for Lukasz “We look forward to strengthening our attack and providing much needed goals this season. This is a very positive signing for us,” he said.
Chennaiyin FC will look to bounce back from last season’s disappointment after finishing 8th in the table with just 20 points to their name and surely look to win their third ISL title this season, and the Polish international will be a key player adding a lot of experience to the side.
