ISL: Winners of Golden Glove Award

The Indian Super League (ISL) has provided many awards througout the years among which comes the Golden Glove Award which is given to honour the best goalkeeper in the league for a given season.

Let’s check out the Goalkeepers who have been awarded with the Golden Glove award since the very beginning of the ISL season in 2014.

#1) Jan Šeda (FC Goa) – 2014

Jan Šeda is a Czech Goalkeeper who proved to be the best in the opening season of the ISL. He joined FC Goa on loan from FK Mladá Boleslav and left his print on his only campaign in the ISL.

He won the Golden Glove Award in ISL 2014 playing 14 matches and keeping six clean sheets and he also made 42 saves in the same year. Although the Czech goalie was unable to win the ISL that season as they crumbled to Athletico de Kolkata in the penalties who then later on went on to become the Champions.

#2) Apoula Edel (Chennaiyin FC) – 2015

Edel has proved himself to be one of the best in the ISL with incredible goalkeeping prowess and abilities to handle the ball in the D- box. He has won the ISL for two consecutive seasons with two different clubs.

In his stint with Chennaiyin FC Edel was honoured with the Golden Glove award alongside the ISL trophy as he kept six clean sheets in 13 matches and also went on to make 39 saves in the calendar year of 2015.

#3) Amrinder Singh (Mumbai City FC) – 2016

Amrinder Singh has spent his career proving to be the best in the Indian Football. He has played for five different clubs in the Indian Super League in the last seven seasons.

He was the first Indian Goalkeeper to win the Golden Gloves in 2016, playing for Mumbai City. He kept five clean sheets in six matches and made eight saves. Mumbai was very close on reaching there first final in the ISL but got beaten 3-2 by ATK in the semis.

#4) Subrata Pal (Jamshedpur FC) – 2017/18

Subrata Pal, the 34 year old Goalkeeper has represented the Indian Football for 17 long years and has even played on loan in the Danish club FC Vestsjælland.

Subrata Pal won the Golden Gloves in the 2017/18 season although Jamshedpur FC did not get a chance in the playoffs. He had seven clean sheets in 18 appearances and made 44 saves.

#5) Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (Bengaluru FC) – 2018/19 & 2019/20

Gurpree Singh Sandhu has been an remarkable keeper and is currently the first choice in the Indian national team. Gurpreet Singh helped Bengaluru to reach two consecutive finals in 2017 and in 2018, and was also very close in 2019 to make their third consecutive finals.

He became the winner of the Golden Gloves two times in a row and remains as the only keeper in the history of ISL to have won the award two times. In both these seasons he played 39 matches and kept 18 clean sheets with a whooping number of 110 saves.

#6) Arindam Bhattacharya (ATK Mohun Bagan) – 2020/21

Arindam Bhattacharya proved to be an exception goalkeeper in 2020/21 campaign playing for the side ATK Mohun Bagan (previously known as Athletico de Kolkata). He had a key role to play in ATK reaching the finals for the fourth time in seven seasons.

Arindam became the winner of Golden Gloves in 2020/21 season although ATK succumbed to a 2-1 loss against Mumbai City FC in the finals. He had 10 clean sheets in 23 matches and made a whooping number of 59 saves.
