“It is a bit strange”- Manchester United midfielder Fred hits out at the club’s decision making for not having a long-term plan
Manchester United midfielder Fred has recently criticised the club and called it a bit ‘strange’ for having Ralf Rangnick as an interim manager and not having a long-term plan. The former Shakhtar Donetsk player scored in the second half after coming on as a substitute in United’s recent 4-2 win against Leeds at the Elland Road. Manchester United travel to Spain to take on Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano in the Champions League round of 16 first leg. The Red Devils can once again expect an hostile atmosphere the same as the Elland Road at the weekend where the United players were attacked while celebrating.
However Fred in his recent interview with TNT has questioned the decision making and wisdom of Manchester United by appointing an interim manager in Ralf Rangnick as a short term solution and lack of planning have left the squad in the dark this season. “It’s a bit strange, I know in football it’s important to get good results as soon as possible, but it’s also important to have a long-term plan. I think it’s a little bit bad for us not to have one. At the moment it’s all about the short-term goals. We don’t know how it’s going to be after the end of this season.” Fred said while speaking to TNT Sports Brazil.

“It would not be crazy”- Fred believes Manchester United can win the UEFA Champions League but have to work very hard
Manchester United have not lifted a silverware in the last five seasons and after being knocked out of both domestic competitions which is the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. Hence going all the way in the Champions League is United’s only hope and Fred believes that Manchester United can win the most prestigious competition. “It wouldn’t be crazy, It could happen but we have to work our socks off because we’re far away from being one of the favourites in this competition. I know we’re not playing our best football, but we have a lot of quality names in our squad. I see many other teams playing far off from their best as well.” Fred added.
The midfielder also added that United are aware of the quality of Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid as a team even though they’re missing some key players and are not in their best form at the moment. “Even when not playing well, Atletico are a hard team to beat. Their manager is Argentinian, man, so they’re warriors. They like a bit of a fight on the pitch.”
