“… it’s not simple to find a solution in a short time..” – Antonio Conte on Tottenham’s improvement

Talking to Sky Sports after the defeat, the Tottenham manager was asked about what it would take to improve the North London club to compete with the top teams in the Premier League like Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool. In his reply, Conte said that it will require time to close the gap between teams and the solution is not simple.

He said: “The club know very well what I think and the time that we need to close this gap because there is not one transfer market to close the gap. I think that in the last few years, this gap became very very big and it’s not simple to find the solution in a short time.

Antonio Conte thinks it’s unrealistic to expect improvement in short time

The Italian manager further added that it would be unrealistic to expect Tottenham to close the gap with the big teams in a single transfer window. He thinks that the quality of the squad has deteriorated in the past few years and it will take time to improve the team.

“I’m only focused with the players to work until the end and then we will see. We have four months to try to give everything but if we think that we [can] solve the transfer market situation, it is not the reality. Many years, but you have to start and there is a point to start and I think in the last few years the squad decreased instead of improving.

Yesterday’s defeat to Chelsea was Antonio Conte’s Tottenham’s first loss in their last five games, dampening their ambitions to overtake their North London rivals Arsenal in the points table. The Spurs currently sit at seventh position in the Premier League table with a game in hand.

In their next match, Tottenham takes on Brighton in the FA Cup encounter at home.
