“It’s really dangerous with these interviews”- Jurgen Klopp on the statements made by Mo Salah in a recent interview
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp talked about the comments Salah made regarding his contract in his recent interview. He said these interviews are really dangerous.
Reacting to the interview, Klopp told a press conference: “First of all, nowadays especially I think it’s really dangerous with these interviews when you didn’t speak to the player himself or there’s nothing in what would be unexpected.
“We know, I know that Mo wants to stay. That’s the point where we are. These things take time, I cannot change [that], I’m sorry.
“But I think it’s all in a good place. I’m very positive about it, but I don’t think it makes sense that [I] speak on behalf of the fans because I’m pretty sure the fans are not as nervous as you are.
“They know the club pretty long, they know the people who are dealing here. That’s enough reason for feeling positive.”
Asked directly why the discussions are taking so long, Klopp added: “Things take time. There’s so many things that you have to do in these negotiations.
“By the way, a third party – the agent – is there as well. There’s nothing to worry about, it’s a normal process.”
Klopp was speaking ahead of Liverpool’s rearranged Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal on Thursday.
What did Salah say in the interview?
In an interview with GQ – conducted in November – Mohamed Salah insisted he isn’t looking for “crazy stuff” from the club.
“I want to stay, but it’s not in my hands. It’s in their hands,” he said.
“They know what I want. I’m not asking for crazy stuff.
“The thing is when you ask for something and they show you they can give you something, [they should]. Because they appreciate what you did for the club.
“I’ve been here for my fifth year now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me.
“But with the administration, they have [been] told the situation. It’s in their hands.”
Salah has now entered the final 18 months of his contract at Anfield, and both player and club are eager to find a resolution to ensure his long-term future remains on Merseyside.
However, there is yet to be any breakthrough as talks continue between Liverpool and Salah’s representative. Reports suggest that he is seeking terms worth around £400,000 a week.
