Liverpool were beaten 1-0 by Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday, which was just their second defeat this season. The reds now trail leaders Manchester City by 6 points as a result of the loss. Jurgen Klopp’s side had ample of chances to wrap up the game. Given that Leicester City were trashed 6-3 by City on Boxing day and the number of absentees the foxes had it should’ve been a normal day at the office for Liverpool. But it turned out that Brendan Rodgers’ men handed them their second loss of the Premier League season.

Liverpool began on the front foot with fullbacks pushing high and wide. And the pressure paid off as Mohamed Salah was brought down by Wilfred Ndidi who was playing out of position as a centre-back. But Kasper Schmeichel came up big for his team and saved the spot kick, the Egyptian failed to also head in the rebound in the open net. If Salah would’ve converted from the spot it would’ve been his 150th Premier League goal.

The missed chances came back to haunt Liverpool as substitute Ademola Lookman made an instant impact scoring five minutes after coming on with a deft finish beating Allisson at his near post. Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota all missed chances in the second to equalise and more so win the game.

Jurgen Klopp in post match conference said that it was James Maddison for sure who put Mo Salah off as the Egyptian scores from situations like that. Here’s what Klopp said in his post match conference about the penalty incident “Yes, James Maddison for sure was talking to him, but everybody tries that, Mo usually scores from these situations and tonight he didn’t.”

Liverpool take on Chelsea on Sunday as both teams will surely want to close the gap to City at the top. Both teams sit on 41 points and it will be a crucial game in terms of the title race.
