Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici will leave the club by mutual consent after more than a decade with the former Italian champions when his contract expires next month, the Serie A side announced on Wednesday.

Having spent 11 seasons with the Turin side, Paratici’s contract, which is due to expire on June 30, 2021, will not be renewed. The decision had been in the air following a disappointing campaign, and he’ll probably be replaced by the promotion of Luigi Cherubini.

Paratici, who joined Juventus in 2010 from Sampdoria, have had filled many roles at the club including sports director and Chief
Football Officer, and ends a fruitful 11-year spell where the club won nine straight Serie A titles from 2011/12 to 2019/20. Paratici was the right hand man of former chief executive Beppe Marotta, the talent identifier, and was rewarded with a promotion to sporting director for the leading role he played in the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018.

Since then, Juventus’ competitiveness has declined and Paratici’s contract, due to expire at the end of this season, has not been renewed. A mini revolution is expected to take place at Juventus amid increasing speculation that Max Allegri could return for a second spell at the Allianz Stadium.

The Bianconeri has just ended a turbulent campaign where they needed good fortune to smile on them before they earned a top-four finish. Juventus lost their Scudetto title to Inter Milan and also exited the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage against FC Porto.

Andrea Pirlo has overseen one of their worst campaigns in the last ten years and they will not want a repeat of the poor showing in the next campaign as some club members and players are set for the axe.

In a club statement, Paratici said: “They were wonderful years of professional growth and strong emotions. Juventus gave me the opportunity to carry out my work with full freedom and without interference in full respect of my role.

“For this I would like to thank the whole club, my staff, the employees, co-workers, the players, the coaches, the shareholders, and in particular, the President, Andrea Agnelli. An important chapter of my career closes, as I await new challenges,”.

Juventus club president Agnelli added: “Fabio has written the history of Juventus in recent years.

A journey characterised by professionalism, self-sacrifice and many successes.

Nineteen trophies in 11 years are the best testimony of his work, which is fully part of the long tradition of our club. Today is the time to thank him for having been able to create a strong professional bond, accompanied by daily passion.”

Paratici’s depature will now determine Juventus’ stand on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo and coach Andrea Pirlo. Paratici and vice-president Pavel Nedved were widely believed to be the figures behind Allegri’s ouster in 2019, as the coach has retained a strong rapport with President Agnelli. With Paratici now out, and Maurizio Sarri and Andrea Pirlo failing to match Allegri’s achievements, there are growing reports the Italian mastermind will return to Turin.
