2022 FIFA World Cup: What is Qatar’s take on LGBTQIA+ community rights?

FIFA World Cup 2022

On November 20, 2022, the highly anticipated and famous FIFA World Cup in Qatar is scheduled to start. Given all the controversy and criticism surrounding it, it is one of the most overlooked World Cups ever. The government’s position on LGBTQIA+ laws was the main point of contention.

The primary goal of many football leagues is to advance all genders and accord them the respect they merit. However, it comes with a complete contradiction when the host nation’s regulations let society down and establish tough laws and sanctions against the neighborhood.

In Qatar, homosexuality is forbidden. There will be no laws to protect them, and the punishment may extend up to imprisonment. Additionally, the laws forbid changing one’s gender. In Qatar, gay marriages are likewise forbidden. These spouses are unable to adopt children, serve in the military, or enlist.

The severity of homosexuality penalties might also vary depending on whether the offender is a Muslim or not. Non-Muslims will be persecuted and locked up for about 7 years. For Muslims, the punishment is severe and may even include the accused being stoned to death. This has caused fires to spread throughout the entire earth.

The fact that the state’s equality index is only 13 out of 100, which is extremely low, is also a source of great embarrassment for the nation. Many players have also publicly declared that they will wear a rainbow band to demonstrate their support for the LGBTQIA+ community in light of the discrimination they experience.

Due to the constraints, many fans have also voiced a lack of enthusiasm in attending the World Cup. However, the government has guaranteed that gay couples won’t face any legal issues while watching the World Cup, but they won’t be able to make any sort of public declarations.

Restriction laws at World Cup

The fact that the country of Qatar does not permit the same has led to numerous criticisms of the Qatar World Cup’s drinking regulations. Since alcohol consumption is prohibited, a “Desert Festival” is being put up outside the stadium where English and Welsh supporters will be permitted to consume alcohol for up to 17 hours per day and watch games there.

Additionally, English supporters are advised to maintain decorum and refrain from removing their jerseys in order to celebrate their victory. All of these regulations contradict the idea that having fun, which is one of the main reasons any fan would attend a game at the stadium, is forbidden. Fans eagerly anticipate what will happen.
