Liverpool qualified for the Quarter Finals of the UEFA Champions League by winning the tie against Serie A champions Inter Milan 2-1 on aggregate. The Reds, however, lost the second leg 1-0 at home yesterday night but the 2 goals in the first leg were enough to see them through.

Liverpool became the first team to qualify for the Quarter Finals of this season’s UEFA Champions League along with Bayern Munich, who defeat Red Bull Salzburg 8-2 on aggregate. The Reds looked dominant throughout both the leg against Inter Milan but failed to capitalize on their chances.

Liverpool hit the post thrice in the second leg yesterday and Mohamed Salah came closest to scoring for the Reds. However, yesterday’s defeat ended Liverpool’s winning streak in this season’s Champions League. Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez scored a beautiful goal to end Liverpool’s unbeaten home run this season.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was not happy with the officiating in the 2nd leg tie of the Champions League match of Liverpool against Serie A champions Inter Milan. The Reds boss thought his team deserved the aggregate win but was not convinced with the level of officiating during the match.

Jurgen Klopp said,” I think he was lucky he had not got a red card in the first half, going in so high on Thiago onto his knee. Passion is good, absolutely good, but if it leads to these kind of things then it does not help. I do not understand why we have to discuss the red card.”

The Liverpool boss said,” If you can win the ball only, if you endanger an opponent when you do it, then you do not win the ball. If Fabinho goes in with the same intention, with the leg out, then both the players get injured. I think he was lucky he had not got a red card in the first half.”

Klopp also added,” Going in so high on Thiago onto his knee. Passion is good, absolutely good, but if it leads to these kinds of things then it does not help. The art of football is to lose the right games. I still hate it, but if was any time to lose, it was tonight because the main target is to go through and we have done that.”

“It is not that I am over the moon, I am happy we went through because when we saw the draw, we thought it was a tough one, and we deserved it over the two legs. We had some difficulties, one of those is the quality of the opponent, they are a really good team,” said the Liverpool manager.

Klopp also added,” But we still had our chances and did not score. I did not like our counter-press, when we lost the ball we had to chase the situation and that was not exactly how I wanted it. But in the end, you have to respect the quality of the opponent. And we used our chances we still could have won the game.”
