Manchester United lost heavily in the Manchester derby yesterday night against their arch rivals Manchester City. The Red Devils were beaten 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium and were outclassed by the Cityzens. Manchester City showed their quality in the 2nd half by scoring some beautiful goals and completely outplaying Manchester United.

Manchester United are now outside the top 4 in the Premier League and it is not looking very good for them as Arsenal, who is also in the top 4 race, is 4th in the table with three games in hand. The Red Devils face a difficult period in the season where they have to face Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Liverpool and Leicester City in quick succession.

March is going to be a season defining period for Ralf Rangnick’s men and the Red Devils cannot afford to drop any more points than they already have. Manchester United fans will be hoping that the team finds their form back before their next game and start scoring goals again.

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick was seemingly unhappy after his side suffered a heavy 4-1 loss against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The German manager was without Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Edinson Cavani and Luke Shaw for the crucial tie and the Red Devils were completely outplayed by a much clinical Manchester City side and Manchester United’s chance to qualify for the Champions League looks tough.

Ralf Rangnick said, I think it was a good 1st half, even the first 60 minutes were okay, but the 1st half was good. We had our moments, we could have scored 1 or 2 goals more in the first half. Whenever we were in possession of the ball, we showed that we could create problems for them, the same is true with out transitional moments, but, in the end, they scored 2 goals and we scored 1.”

The German added,” So at half-time, it was clear for us that we needed to try to score at least 1 if not 2 goals, once they scored the 3rd goal, which was a brilliant corner kick, we just have to admit that, it was difficult to defend it, then it was almost over. This goal killed us off because then against a team like Manchester City, the best team in the world in possession, if you then try to chase the ball high up, then you take a risk to concede more goals.”

Rangnick also said,” We did not have that many strikers available today, the only one that we had on the bench was Marcus, who we brought on after 60 minutes, so for us it was clear we have to have as many players on the pitch who get behind the ball and we make sure that we are as compact as we can possibly be.”

“I didn’t expect Arsenal to lose at Watford so for us it’s clear, if we still want to have a chance to finish fourth at the end of the season, we can almost not drop any points, and we also know that in those 10 games that we have to play, there are a few other difficult ones so let’s take it game by game,” said the Manchester United manager.

Ralf Rangnick ended the interview by saying,” For us, it is important we keep developing the team, which we did in the last couple of months, and then make sure we can win the next 2 home games against Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, two very important games for us to come.”
