Manchester United have had a roller coaster of a season this year. The Red Devils started the season with a great victory against Leeds United on the opening day of the Premier League season. But since then, Manchester United have not had a consistent run of wins in all competitions.
The Red Devils had to sack their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer midway through the season after a shocking run of results in November. German manager Ralf Rangnick was then appointed and he has somewhat steadied the ship, but Manchester United are far off from challenging Manchester City and Liverpool for the title.
Manchester United last won a silverware in 2017 when they won the UEFA Europa League, the Carabao Cup as well as the Community Shield in the same season. Since then, things have been downwards for the Red Devils and the English club have not come close to winning anything since then.
Given the team’s recent performances, the Red Devils are already out of the race for the Premier League title and are just playing in the UEFA Champions League after being knocked out of the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. There is little to no hope that Manchester United will be able to win the UEFA Champions League due to their inconsistent form and out of form players.

Rio Ferdinand, like many other Manchester United fans, was very hopeful and optimistic that the Red Devils would challenge for the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League after the statement signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.
Rio Ferdinand said,” The problem I have is that Ralf Rangnick has come in but then you’re going to have to change it again for someone else’s style of football. It’s then going to be another upheaval, new style to implement and players understanding that.”
Ferdinand also added,” I think personally United have got to write off the next year or two in terms of trophies, minimum- say ‘we are going to rebuild what we have, get our recruitment right and there is a certain style of play under this new manager that we are going to go with and he is going to have time to get it all right, there is going to be mistakes, a few things that could go wrong but we are going to stick with the guy’ and see out the progress made.”
The ex Manchester United player also added,” It’s going to take that long, and you can’t have that transition and win. It doesn’t happen. Liverpool didn’t do it. How long did it take Klopp to win? You have to take a leaf out of other team’s books. Sometimes you have got to humble yourselves and take stock and say in reality, that this is where we are at.”
“The hype of those signings hyped me up, hype all United fans up. But reality has come back to bite us and you’ve got to sit back and say where are we really at? United aren’t in a place to win and challenge for trophies that’s it- Champions League and the Premier League. I just feel sometimes you have to accept where you are. United have lived off the past for far too long,” said the Manchester United legend.
