Mauricio Pochettino linked with a sensational return to Spurs
According to the reports in the rumor mill, Mauricio Pochettino is linked with a sensational return to his former club, Tottenham Hotspur. The former Southampton boss was sacked by the North London outfit in November 2019 but was appointed by the French outfit a year later during Christmas. However, the papers state the manager is not convinced with his stay in the French capital and is looking to return to England.
With Paris St Germain, Mauricio Pochettino won the French Super Cup as well as Coupe de France in his first season. However, the manager lost the Ligue 1 title race to Lille bringing him under the scanner.
What is the news with Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs?
According to the Sky Sports reporter, Kaveh Solhekol, Mauricio Pochettino is open to return to North London just after the completion of a season in France. Also, a big section of the Spurs fanbase wants their former manager back who led the team to the Champions League finals with limited resources. He said:
I think he would be open to the option of returning to Spurs. He's got one year left on his PSG contract. He did win the French Cup with them a couple of weeks ago, but they missed out on winning the French title. If you're the PSG manager, you're really expected to win the title every season, and they were also knocked out of the Champions League by Manchester City. This is an appointment that would be very popular with Spurs fans and every fan I know wants Mauricio Pochettino back. There's a real connection between him and the club. He understands Spurs and supporters treat him as if he was one of their own. When he was at the club, he managed in very difficult circumstances without the transfer budget some of his rivals had.
Despite having a smaller transfer budget compared to his rivals, Mauricio Pochettino had a great time with Tottenham Hotspur. In 202 Premier League games before the sack, Pochettino had registered 113 wins and had lost just 46. He also led the team to the second spot in the season where Leicester City won the English Premier League title.
The return of Pochettino might stall Harry Kane’s move away from North London. A section of players also want their former boss to return, according to the reports, and might force Kane to rethink his plans. Daniel Levy will have to act quickly before the transfer window starts.
