Mohammedan SC confirms signing of Trinidad and Tobago international Marcus Joseph

Gokulam Kelera and Trinidad and Tobago striker Marcus Joseph has reportedly signed a one year deal with Mohammedan SC, the club confirmed on their twitter handle. The 30 year old striker had lifted the I-League title last season with Gokulam Kerela and also won the Durand Cup with the Kozhikode based club in 2019.

Having impressed during his stay for a season and a half with Gokulam Kerela, Marcus was attracting the interest of many clubs, but the Black Panthers have beaten everyone for the signing of Joseph before the Calcutta Football League is set to start. Marcus Joseph although primarily plays as a striker is versatile enough according to the demands of the team and the coach. He became the fourth overseas player to join Mohemmedan SC this summer on a one year deal.

Joseph had joined the Malabarians in January 2019 and since then has scored 25 goals in 30 matches. He scored twice as Gokulam Kerela beat Mohun Bagan 2-1 in the Durand Cup final as they won their first major title. For a player coming from outside and settling in India, Joseph has enjoyed a stellar career so far having won the Golden Boot in the Durand Cup campaign by scoring 11 goals.

He started his career at United Petronin FC and moved to Joe Public FC in 2010 where he spend two season before moving T and TEC Sports Club in 2012. He has also played at Point Fortin and Central FC before he joined W Connection on 2017.

He has participated in several age group international tournament for his country. He has played in the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup in South Korea and the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt.

He made his senior debut for his country on March 3 2013, and has made 12 appearances for Trinidad and Tobago national side and has score goals on seven different occasions. He was also involved with Trinidad and Tobago’s 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup Qualifiers campaign and also scored against Montserrat.

Mohammedan SC also announced that they have extended the contract of their local talent Ripon Rahaman for the upcoming season.
