10 players were sent off in the Argentinian national football cup final between Boca Juniors and Racing Club

Boca Juniors played in the final of the Trofeo de Campeones and the match ended with a record 10 red cards. Argentine referee Facundo Tello was in charge of the match as he raised mayhem across the end of the match sending off nearly seven players. Carlos Alcaraz won it for the Racing Club and his goal led the club to the Trofeo de Campeones de la Superliga trophy.
The referee officiating this match has been called up for the World Cup which kicks off on 20 November in Qatar and some players are feeling scared after last night’s incident. Boca Juniors’ player Norberto Briasco scored the opener giving his side a much-needed lead in the 19th minute but just three minutes after that, Matias Rojas’s long-range strike put Racing level.
With neither of the team finding the winner in regulation time, the match went to extra time and Boca’s Villa and Racing’s Johan Carbonero saw clear red in the 95th min and 5 mins later Alan Varela was also sent off. Alcaraz scored the winner in the 118th minute giving the Juniors absolutely no chance to come back with an equalizer helping his team lift the famous old trophy.
What was the incident that provoked the referee to show ten red cards?
After the sending-off of Alan Varela in the 100th min, Racing Club had an advantage with 10 men and were constantly attacking the Boca defense. In the 118th minute, Alcaraz headed the ball in the back of the net and his celebrations in front of the Boca fans led to a lot of chaos. The Junior players got angry and a fight broke out and the referee sent both Alcaraz and his team-mate Jonathan Galvan off the pitch.
Some of the Boca players grabbed Alcaraz’s ear and also threw a ball at him for his celebration which led to the dismissals of Luis Advincula, Carlos Zambrano, Diego Gonzalez, Frank Fabra, and Dario Benedetto and the team was left with only four players on the pitch. The game ended with just 12 players on the pitch and the Argentine FA still haven’t decided to speak on the matter yet.
