2022 FIFA World Cup host Qatar hit by huge tornado as England train for their quarterfinal clash against France
Dramatic video captures the moment a massive tornado struck World Cup host Qatar, hurling clouds in the shape of spirals across the desert. The video and weather updates were tweeted by Qatar’s meteorological service, which also pleaded with people to “please be careful” and warned that inshore and offshore areas could see thundery rain.
According to the World Risk Index, Qatar has the lowest threat level from natural disasters of any country on the planet, and tornadoes are also incredibly rare. As the nation has seen severe rain for the first time since the tournament began last month, some commentators have expressed concern over the playing conditions for the footballers.
Ras Laffan Industrial City, around 50 miles north of the Qatar capital Doha, is said to be experiencing harsh weather. Roads in Ras Laffan, which is less than a half-hour drive from Al Khor stadium, the most northern of the World Cup locations, have been flooded as a result of the sudden weather.
Football pundit Gary Lineker tweeted a photo of Wednesday’s gloomy skies, adding that it is the first day off from football in nearly three weeks: “First day without football. First day with a cloud.” After a two-day hiatus, the 2022 FIFA World Cup resumes with Brazil taking on Croatia at the Education City Stadium on Friday.
England manager declared France as their “Biggest test” in 2022 FIFA World Cup
England’s quarterfinal clash against France is considered by many as “Clash between Titans” with both teams possessing a proper blend of youth & experience. England manager Gareth Southgate described the fixture as the three lions’ toughest test in the tournament so far.
“In terms of France, it’s the biggest test we could face,” Southgate said. “They’re world champions with an incredible depth of talent and outstanding individual players. They’re very difficult to play against and score goals against, so it’s a fantastic challenge and a brilliant game to prepare for.”
