Aaron Ramsdale‘s father has been vocal about his son’s new spot in the Arsenal Squad. Since the arrival of David Raya from Brentford, the English goalkeeper has only appeared twice for Arsenal since early September.
A topic which was covered by several media outlets, Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta seems to have a new solidified No.1 at the back of Arsenal’s goal and sadly it is not the Englishman. Aaron Ramsdale who was his first-choice goalkeeper last season – with whom they finished second in the league – has had to take a backseat and has not appeared in the Premier League in over eight fixtures and only made a recent appearance in Arsenal’s 3-1 loss to West Ham in the EFL Cup.
Ramsdale’s father when speaking to the Highbury Squad Podcast, said:
Aaron has lost that smile. And it's difficult to see him there. Aaron's going to be the cup goalkeeper and David Raya is the main man. And Aaron's gotta live with that and he is living with that.
However, Ramsdale’s father does not blame anyone for the situation regarding his son’s current dilemma and understands the situation at the club. Meanwhile, his father also did allude to Mikel Arteta never mentioning who specifically was the No.1 choice in the Starting XI.
He's not been told it. By anybody.
Aaron Ramsdale’s father, while accepting the decision made by the coach, believes it was done in the wrong manner.
In my eyes, it's been wrong.
Will Aaron Ramsdale ever make the starting XI at Arsenal again?
While David Raya is on a season-long loan at Arsenal, many might think Aaron Ramsdale’s could eventually come as the player should be gone by summertime. However, there is an option to buy for Arsenal which can be activated by paying £27 Million (not including the £3 Million loan fee).
This could lead to serious questions being asked about the player’s future at the club. Not getting any minutes in the league, Ramsdale’s father alluded to him being the cup goalkeeper. However, already out of the EFL Cup, the FA Cup remains the only option as David Raya is preferred over him in the UEFA Champions League fixtures.
Bayern Munich and Chelsea are potential new teams for a player currently benched at Arsenal. The 25-year-old is eager to regain a starting spot and get more playing time. However, considering the contract until 2026, Arsenal might demand a substantial transfer fee.
