Achraf Hakimi and Kylian Mbappe
In the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar hasn’t failed to deliver at all. The number of upsets in this year’s campaign has been the record most. Recently, Morocco triumphed over Portugal to make a concrete place in the semifinals. Achraf Hakimi who was key in getting his national team this far, by beating Spain on penalties and the Portuguese 1-0, has sent a sweet message to his club teammate Kylian Mbappe who will also be there at the semifinals against them after France beat England (2-1).
Achraf Hakimi via his Twitter account made an official invitation to the Frenchman Kylian Mbappe writing, “See you soon my Friend”, after finalizing the semifinals with the stage that will be taken over by France and Morocco to fight for the greatest stage in international football. The Moroccan player who has been winning it for his since the very beginning is all set to face his teammate and the FIFA World Cup favorites France to bear. Hakimi has a difficult job ahead marking the pace of Kylian.
This year’s FIFA World Cup campaign has seen so many upsets thus far. Morocco’s win against Portugal was surely an upset for them. The Portuguese coach who left Cristiano Ronaldo out of the playing 11 squads is getting trolled for taking inexperienced players to the knockout stage, and the experience which cost them in the dying moments and also couldn’t help them to score during the start. This loss shall surely be a lesson for Portugal, never leave the leader out.
In an earlier interview, the Moroccan player was once quoted sharing admirable thoughts about his family’s past, saying, “My mother cleaned the houses and my father was a street vendor. We come from a modest family that struggled to earn a living. Today I fight every day for them. They sacrificed themselves for me. They deprived my brothers of many things for me to succeed.” This is something that can never be repaid, but Hakimi surely tries.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal swam through the high pressure, but could not find a way through. In the end, Youssef En-Nesyri’s goal was enough to send Morocco through by a 1-0 scoreline. En-Nesyri towered high against the Portuguese goalkeeper’s hands right before halftime, and the Moroccan defense took over from there, controlling the Portugal attack for the rest of the game.
Cristiano Ronaldo started the match benched, with Fernando Santos again favoring young Goncalo Ramos in the attack, but later turned to CR7 just minutes after getting on in the second half.
Portugal had a number of chances late but just could not get through past the visible terrific effort from the Moroccan defense. It’s glory for Morocco and heartbreak for the Portuguese. CR7’s introduction on the pitch had little effect, as the player missed his only good opportunity to change the game later. Rafael Leao was the true injection for continuous attacks, but his introduction came too late to alter the scoreline. Cristiano Ronaldo was later shown heading straight down the tunnel in tears, unable to control his emotions.
