“Assault, misogyny, and failures by the Spanish federation,” USWNT star Alex Morgan ‘disgusted’ by Luis Rubiales’ controversial kiss to Jenni Hermoso

US International, Alex Morgan has come out publicly condemning Luis Rubiales‘ actions towards Jenni Hermoso.“Winning a World Cup should be one of the best moments in these players’ lives but instead, it’s overshadowed,” she states.
USWNT player, Alex Morgan knows all too well about how it feels to win a World Cup as she was herself part of the winning teams in 2015 and 2019. However, the Spanish Women’s Team have had their big moment overshadowed by the actions of the Spanish FA President. To which Morgan wrote, “Assault, misogyny, and failures by the Spanish federation.” Further, she also extended her support to Jenni Hermoso who had to go through this after winning the maiden WC.
Megan Rapinoe has also had her say on the topic. She was also part of the team when USWNT won the WC in 2015 and 2019 alongside teammate Alex Morgan. Rapinoe sympathizes with the Spanish team mentioning the issue with the 15 Spanish players who had resigned from the National Team due to Jorge Vilda‘s abusive system of management.
“Some of the players who stood up way back last year, still aren’t on the team. On the biggest stage, where you should be celebrating. Jenni has to be physically assaulted by this guy,” mentioned Rapinoe.
Jenni Hermoso’s Statment
Recently, Jenni Hermoso released her statement on X. She begins by stating her appreciation for her teammates, fans, and media who were all part of the journey. Following this, she stated her sadness over the incident with Luis Rubiales that occurred.“Rubiales’ words explaining the unfortunate incident are categorically false,” wrote Hermoso. The kiss was never consensual and she did not like it.
Further, she added that the RFEF was pressuring her and her peers to come out with a joint statement stating the incident was nothing and to justify Rubiales’ actions. The Spanish team has already suffered due to incidents prior to the World Cup and she feels the person who disrespected her and her team’s biggest achievement should not be excused.
Jenni Hermoso goes on by stating that the strength she received from her teammates and people who viewed the incident live on TV helped her release her statement. She would no longer be part of the National Team until the current leaders are in place. She now leaves the situation in the hands of TMJ and FUTPRO.
