Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou playfully told reporters that the club was disappointed about not securing the signing of British driver Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton created a lot of buzz on the internet, after announcing a move to Ferrari from Mercedes, for the 2025 season.
The North London side has also had an eventful winter transfer window. They secured Radu Dragusin for approximately £25 million and secured a loan deal for Timo Werner from Leipzig. The January transfer window was well utilized by Postecoglou, to strengthen his team’s core. But it was overshadowed by news that seven-time Formula One champion Hamilton would join Ferrari from 2025.
The Spurs manager, while speaking to reporters about the January transfer window admitted that he was left disappointed with one failed move on transfer deadline day, later jokingly suggesting that he was referring to Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari.
Further, the Australian manager confirmed that all the reporters were busy noting down the transfer report, which was merely a joke.
The club just didn’t feel it was the right move for us so disappointed with that. But he ended up at Ferrari so we just have to cop it… look at you all! You were ready to type away. I was going to pause just to let his (press officer’s) phone blow up, but it was a good one, mate, a good one.
Meanwhile, Hamilton’s surprising move to Ferrari, after 11 successful years for Mercedes took Twitter by surprise. Many football fans took to social media, trying to explain the racer’s move to a new team at such an age, in football terms.
Ange Postecoglou speaks out on 18-year-old Swedish youngster Lucas Bergvall’s transfer
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has spoken out for the first time after the transfer of Swedish talent, Lucas Bergvall to the club. The 18-year-old player joins in the summer of 2024. Spurs acquired the player, after hijacking a transfer deal from Barcelona.
Bergvall has agreed to sign a five-year deal for £8.5 million. He will join the club on 1 July 2024 from Djurgarden. Spurs completed the deal on the deadline day of the January transfer window and will be completing paperwork to sign the player in the next few days.
During media interactions, Postecoglou avoided specific discussion about the midfielder but recognized the necessity to enhance Spurs’ academy. Further, he emphasized the focus on nurturing young players within the club.
