By openly discussing a €100 million (£86 million/$107 million) transfer to Camp Nou then publicly rejecting them at the conclusion of a film documentary made by Blaugrana defender Gerard Pique, Antoine Griezmann humiliated Barcelona in 2018.However, Bartomeu strangely pursued Griezmann again the following year, willing to pay the Frenchman’s contract buy-out clause of €120 million (£100 million/$130 million), as if trying to make a point.

The dynamic attacker had limited success at Camp Nou, and in 2021 he crawled back to rejoining Atletico Madrid on loan with an aim toward a permanent deal. As a result, Griezmann’s club career has subsequently devolved into farce, with Atletico Madrid only using him for the final 30 minutes of games to avoid activating his €40 million acquisition clause.

Variables taken into account, Antoine Griezmann would have made about €178 million in five years. He made about €46 million throughout the two seasons he played.

Barcelona is willing to accept a reduced price for Antoine Griezmann

As per sources Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were prepared to find a common ground to discuss the long-term transfer of Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman, who signed a two-year loan agreement with Atletico Madrid in 2021, is aware that his lack of playing time right now isn’t ideal for neither him nor the capital club.

Atletico is currently required to pay Barcelona €40 million by the end of this loan term. The aforementioned conditions, however, won’t take effect until the forward participates in at least 45 minutes of more than 50% of the games for which he is eligible. Atletico discovered a significant flaw in that strategy by only bringing him on after the 60-minute mark. In eight games in the two competitions, he has played just 226 minutes in La Liga and 57 minutes in the UEFA Champions League.

Barcelona had intended to file a lawsuit, but it turns out that Atletico Madrid is not doing improperly. Atleti’s refusal to meet that valuation leaves the Catalan club with little choice but to accept a sum less than the €40 million already agreed upon. According to the aforementioned source, Barcelona would accept a minimum of €25 million for the Frenchman despite the fact that there haven’t been any formal discussions between the two teams.
