Arsenal switch their attention to Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane as their search for a high-profile winger continues: Reports

Arsenal have wasted no time getting business done during the summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta’s side has already spent more than £112 million on former Manchester City strikers Gabriel Jesus and left-back Zinchenko, Portuguese sensation Fabio Vieira, young Brazilian winger Marquinhos, and experienced American goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Despite this, the Gunners remain very active in the market, with a central midfielder and a winger being mentioned as possible positions for technical director Edu to upgrade on.

It appears that Oleksandr Zinchenko will be officially unveiled as Arsenal’s fifth signing of the summer, and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that the 25-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him in north London until 2026. On Twitter, Romano stated: “Oleksandr Zinchenko has signed his contract as new Arsenal player, valid until June 2026.”

Arsenal are now reportedly plotting an ambitious move for Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane amid their search for a high-profile winger. The Gunners need an alternative option out wide after Bukayo Saka was run into the ground last season with Nicolas Pepe failing to garner the trust of Mikel Arteta.

Flexibility is craved by Arteta, and Arsenal are hopeful of adding another high-output wide player to their ranks this summer after missing out on Raphinha. An alternative may have been sought out in the form of Sane, who worked with Arteta at City.

Why would Bayern Munich sell Leroy Sane to Arsenal?

Leroy Sane was heralded as a fine catch upon moving back to Germany in 2020. Bayern paid Man City an initial £38m that could rise to over £50m pending add-ons. Sane has helped the Bavarians lift back-to-back Bundesliga titles while there. However, his game has not developed and by all accounts, Bayern are a little disappointed at the player’s performance levels.

With Serge Gnabry signing a new deal and Sadio Mane arriving from Liverpool, Sane’s role as a regular starter may not be as secure as it once was. Still, the 25-year-old has 51 goal contributions in 89 games for Die Roten.

The German was nothing short of destructive during the latter stages of his Manchester City career, and there’s no denying that Arteta played a crucial role in Sane’s development at the Etihad. The electric winger has had nothing but good things to say about Pep Guardiola’s former number two, and perhaps this connection could aid Arsenal in their pursuit.
