Ex-Juventus and Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal have given their stances on Newcastle United’s return to the Champions League. Vidal labeled the fixture the “worst Champions League of all time.”
Vidal now plays for Athletico Paranaense in the Brazilian Serie A. Through his Twitch account via RedGol, he also cast out Manchester City and PSG’s matches. He said they were so ‘boring’ that he fell asleep.
Players who often leave the highest stage are known to maintain their following and relevance through their public personalities. Hence, Vidal’s words could also be swiftly criticized by Newcastle and Milan if they wish to proceed through the “group of death.” His assessment of Newcastle’s performance was very harsh as they approached the game with a defensive approach.
However, it is still football’s beauty that a club making a return to the biggest competition in club football after almost two decades has changed its fate. From being in potential relegation battles to giving a run for their money to Italy’s most significant side, Newcastle have turned their fortunes around. With change being the only constant for growth, Newcastle moved ahead with a point and headlines worldwide.
