Arturo Vidal had a great time in Europe, spending 15 years and being part of title-winning teams. One of the most versatile midfielders in the world, he started his career at Chilean club Colo-Colo before leaving for Bayer Leverkusen in 2007.
Now the Chilean has returned to his first professional club after 17 years. Last playing for Club Athletico Paranaense in Brazil, his move back home was confirmed on 22nd January. He was finally unveiled to the fans on 2nd February in the Estadio Monumental David Arellano.
His unveiling was one for the books, as the club went all out in welcoming Vidal back to the club. He was first brought to the stadium on a helicopter, while the fans sang out his name and celebrated.
Former Barca man stepped out of the helicopter, wearing the club’s kit. He was later put on a horse, which walked him in front of 38k fans in the stadium. Vidal was also wearing a crown, and a cape and held a sword.
Why did Arturo Vidal get such a Royal return to the club?
Arturo Vidal began his football career at Colo-Colo after rising through the ranks of their academy. He made his debut in 2006, as a 19-year-old, in the first leg of the Torneo Apertura final, which they ended up winning.
The next season he was given a much more important role, playing an important role in winning two titles before leaving for Bayer Leverkusen. Although he was integral to winning titles for the club, he had only 20 appearances for the club, with three goals.
So why did Vidal get such a big welcome to the club? It could be because he is probably the most famous player to play for the club, with him making a huge name for himself in Europe. Or maybe it is because he was a part of Chile’s Copa America triumphs in 2015 and 2016.
Many fans gave their say as well:
Vidal already featured in a friendly for Colo Colo, playing against Chilean club Everton. He played 59 minutes before being subbed out for Pablo Parra. Vidal has played for clubs like Juventus, Inter Milan, FC Barcelona, and Bayern Munich, winning nine league titles in Europe. He never won the Champions League sadly, finishing as runner-up with Juventus in 2014/15
