La Liga side Atletico Madrid has launched their new home kit for the next season and their iconic straight red stripes have been replaced by curved red and white lines which has faced a lot of criticism from the fans who prefer the iconic and the traditional design more.
Some sources have confirmed that the sales have already fallen by 40 percent compared to the last year and have also bashed the design by saying, ‘you could see it coming’ on social media.
The club is facing a lot of hate due to this new design and is adamant about returning back to the classic stripes for the next season. The new logo has also faced a lot of criticism, which has also led to a sales drop in recent years.
The club’s crest was changed in 2016 with the old one having a yellow outline but the new one looks cleaner. Despite this, a special 75th-anniversary kit was launched by the club with the old logo on it and it sold out quickly.
How has Atletico Madrid looked so far in pre-season?
Atletico Madrid finished third in the league last season and also made it to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League getting knocked by Manchester City. Prior to the 2022/23 season, Atletico trained in the Los Angeles de San Rafael mountains towards Segovia and special apparatus titled ‘murder hill’ to focus on the fitness of their players which was planned by their fitness coach Oscar Ortega.
Known all over the world for his fitness drills, Ortega also known as, ‘El Profe’ also built a special ramp area behind the training pitch for his players to the test their fitness to the ultimatum.
Atletico’s players are required to sprint up the 50-meter, 30 percent slope when the scorching hot sun beams down on them which is one of Ortega’s all-time favorite drills which also looks like an absolute fitness test. Some reports have also suggested that Ortega is known as someone who enjoys pushing his players to the utmost level and keeps on going until they are vomiting and collapsing which is something very unusual considering the man is already in his 60s at the moment.
Atletico has played two games so far in the pre-season having defeated Numancia 4-0 and Manchester United 1-0. They will be playing their final pre-season game against Italian giants Juventus on August 7 before their season kicks off in August 15.
