How much money does Barcelona need to raise to sign players in La Liga’s 2023-24 summer transfer window?
Javier Tebas claims Barcelona cannot improve their squad in the upcoming summer window
After a disappointing European exit despite signing high-profile players in the previous summer transfer window, the Blaugrana are banned from the transfer window unless they can raise 178 million pounds, reported La Liga president Javier Tebas on Thursday after they beat Real Madrid 1-0 in the first leg of the Copa Del Ray semi-finals.
La Liga President Javier Tebas said, “Barça haven’t been able to sign players during the winter transfer window… We didn’t let them. Next summer will be the same, they will not be able to sign players!” If this really is the case then the Catalan giants will face a massive predicament.
Barcelona’s financial woes have been under public scrutiny as they had to let their star man Lionel Messi leave the club to balance their wage bills. Players had to take immense pay cuts to try and reduce the wages with hopes of balancing the books. Even letting go of important players Aubameyang and Depay hardly made any changes to their difficult situation. They have generated income through sponsorship deals like Spotify and selling club assets like TV Rights and spent that in signing players with hopes of winning the Champions League.
But after a disappointing early exit from the Europa League, the Catalan Giants are looking in serious trouble now. They cannot bolster their squad without raising a massive amount of money which is highly unlikely unless they sell some of their star players. It is between the devil and the sea situation for Barca. Despite all this, Barcelona is doing excellent in the Spanish top division. They currently stand 1st in the league 7 points clear of fierce rivals Real Madrid with the best defensive record of the team. They will hope to continue their form in the league next season for continental success as well and hope the current players can perform accordingly.

Xavi praises Barcelona’s ‘spectacular’ defence after Real Madrid win
Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez praised his team’s defence after Thursday’s 1-0 Copa del Rey win at Real Madrid. The Catalans kept yet another clean sheet despite losing Andreas Christensen in a match where Real Madrid had plenty of possession but didn’t manage a shot on target. Xavi hailed Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde as ‘two of the best defenders in the world’ after they shut out Real Madrid and enabled his team to take a 1-0 lead into the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.
Barcelona was without their three top players Robert Lewandowski, Pedri, and Ousmane Dembele which the Los Blancos failed to capitalize and try to dominate their rivals. The strong defensive cover of Araujo and Kounde ensured that they got away with the win.
‘For me Araujo is one of the best defenders in the world and so is Jules Kounde,’ said the Barca coach after the match against Madrid. However, he also said the team should not be carried away with the win as the reigning European Champions have the capability to bounce back and they need to work even harder in the next leg to ensure that his team gets away with the win and gets to the latter stages of the competition.
