Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique watches friend Rafael Nadal play at Wimbledon after split with Shakira

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique stunned fans on Saturday when he was spotted in Wimbledon carrying a Chelsea bag. The central defender is well-known for his love of tennis, regularly attending tournaments and rooting for fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal. The fact that he was caught with a Chelsea bag, on the other hand, raised eyebrows.

The 35-year-old joined Manchester United in 2004 and stayed for four years before moving to Camp Nou. He struggled for minutes as a young prospect at Manchester United, appearing in just 12 Premier League games during that time.

Of course, Pique’s appearance with another club’s crest sparked transfer rumours. However, Marca reported that he went to Chelsea’s store to buy shirts for his children, implying that they support Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Pique made headlines earlier this month after his 11-year relationship with pop star Shakira ended. The pair first met at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, when Shakira performed the iconic anthem ‘Waka Waka’ for the tournament, which Pique won with Spain.

The pair confirmed the news in a joint statement that read, “We regret to confirm that we are parting ways.  We respectfully request that you respect the privacy of our children, who are our top priority. Thank you for your understanding.”

Some speculated that the breakup could cause Pique to hang up his boots and focus on his personal life, but Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that this was not the case. “Pique is suffering,” he said.

“As much as we imagine, we have in our imagination players with fame, money and everything we like, but they are people and Pique is a great person. He is one of the captains, he is lucky, and he has given a lot and he has to give us a lot.”
