The 21-year-old Barcelona midfielder Pedri is anticipated to make his first El Clasico appearance after missing out in the last four editions, much to the delight of fans. Barcelona will face Real Madrid in the final match of the Supercopa de Espana on Sunday.
The 2021 Golden Boy winner is often considered one of the best midfielders in the world for his dribbling and playmaking skills and is a much-valued asset for Barcelona. The talented youngster who spent the initial years of his playing career at Las Palmas joined the Catalan giants in 2020 on a two-year deal worth €5 million.
Pedri’s 2021 Golden Boy win coincided with his Kopa Trophy win as well. Despite facing occasional injuries, he has made 121 appearances for Barcelona in the last four seasons and has also contributed with 18 appearances for the Spanish national team.
Following his recovery from a muscle injury that he sustained in December last year, Pedri is expected to make his way into the Barcelona line-up for their upcoming final clash against arch-rivals Real Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana. Having missed the last four El Clasico matches due to injuries, this marks his return since the Supercopa win last year.
The 21-year-old midfielder was on the bench during the club’s semi-final win against Osasuna and came on as a substitute in the 61st minute of the match. Barcelona’s manager, Xavi, is counting on Pedri to make a significant impact, aiming to retain the title after their previous victory.
Pedri is expected to have his initial starting role post-injury, forming a strong midfield trio with Ilkay Gundogan and Frenkie de Jong. On the other hand, the team will miss out on the services of Joao Cancelo, who is yet to make a return from an injury.
