Barcelona might attract new sleeve partner in the form of a renowned Automobile company

Barcelona

Barcelona still lacks a sponsor for their shirt sleeves despite the flurry of business transactions we saw throughout the summer. The team was negotiating a contract for €20 million with the Ukrainian cryptocurrency business Whitebit.

Even after extensive negotiations, the sponsorship agreement fell through because Barça was uncertain about the future of cryptocurrencies because Spain still hasn’t a clear legal framework for them. Since then, a lot of additional organisations have expressed interest in sponsoring Barcelona’s shirt sleeves. But according to Mundo Deportivo, Cupra is the business that is expressing the most interest.

A division of the Spanish corporation SEAT, Cupra is an automobile brand. It produces the most expensive, sporty, and opulent automobiles and is already FC Barcelona’s official transportation partner.

But by taking on the role of sleeve sponsor, the corporation hopes to strengthen the alliance. Despite the presence of other rivals, they are making a strong effort to win the race.

How did Barcelona develop its financial clout?

To summarise Barcelona’s problems, the club’s debt reached €1.3 billion last year, and after exceeding a predetermined “wage cap,” La Liga barred the club from signing a large number of new players before the 2022–23 season. This “salary cap” is essentially a comparison of revenue to the squad’s worth.

Barcelona has found a way to get around its financial issues by converting short-term debt into long-term debt through the signing of sizable sponsorship deals, such as one worth €280 million with Spotify, borrowing €600 million from Goldman Sachs, and selling off a portion of the club’s assets, including its TV rights and in-house production facility.

In some of the recent friendlies, such as the 2020 match against Elche, in which Lionel Messi was pictured leading the team, the Cupra logo had already been seen on Barça’s sleeves.

The automaker is currently attempting to reach an agreement with the Catalans to become a long-term sleeve sponsor for Barcelona in the upcoming years. Despite the fact that no deal has been made officially yet, the two parties seem to get along well, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they did so soon.
