Barcelona star Memphis Depay is ‘unhappy’ with the rumors questioning his professionalism: Reports

Barcelona forward Memphis Depay has reacted angrily to all the rumours that say that he is faking his injury and that he has been delaying his return from injury purposefully for preparing himself for the World Cup. He has been out of club action since September with a hamstring injury and his return period is not clear and under doubt.

He has been unhappy with these rumours and comments that he does not want to risk playing before the World Cup which can end his participation if he gets injured again. He is one of the most important players that Louis Van Gaal wants to have in his squad and is also the top scorer of the Netherlands team.

Depay wrote on Twitter saying, “Hearing some disrespectful rumours about me purposely slowing down my injury. The media sharing things so easy without actually knowing the facts which as end result creates a negative narrative around my name! Don’t ever disrespect my professionalism!”

Is Barcelona the right place for Memphis Depay to carry forward his career?

Memphis Depay along with former president Josep Bartomeu during his move to Barcelona from Lyon in August 2021.

Memphis Depay was just lighting it up and firing all the goals in Ligue 1 during his time in Olympique Lyon which earned him his move to Barcelona in 2021 but things haven’t looked that great for the Dutch since then. He started well but was quickly restricted to the bench having been injured which triggered the move for Aubameyang in January 2022.

Then Barcelona signed Robert Lewandowski and he has been their prime striker since then. Depay also will have to fight his place with Raphinha and Ferran Torres if he were to play as a winger. And so it looks very glim for Depay at Barcelona currently and it would be better if he finds another club where he can improve himself as a player by playing week in and week out.
