Barcelona to lose £18 million if they are knocked out of the Champions League: Reports
Barcelona
In the Champions League on Wednesday night, Barcelona‘s failure to defeat Inter Milan might have catastrophic financial ramifications for the beleaguered team. The Italian team, following last night’s thrilling 3-3 draw at the Nou Camp, may eliminate Barcelona from the competition if they defeat Viktoria Plzen in the San Siro the following week.
According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona stands to lose a significant amount of money if they are unable to win their next two games and other outcomes go in their favour.
According to reports, the club would lose £18.4 million if they didn’t advance to the tournament’s quarterfinal round. Barcelona, as was previously reported, spent almost £132 million on rebuilding Xavi’s team in the summer, but they must pay for that expenditure this season in order to meet their budgeted goal of having the team finish at least eighth in the European competition.
However, progress now appears unlikely for Xavi’s team, who must also defeat Bayern Munich, a team they have had difficulty defeating in recent seasons.
Barcelona will be relegated to the Europa League if they finish third in their group
Barcelona would make about £8.4 million, as was originally estimated, and an additional £9.3 million if they advance to the quarterfinals. If they advanced that far, they would receive an additional £11 million for the semifinals and either £13.6 million or £17.5 million if they won the final.
Barcelona supporters had high expectations for Wednesday night’s match against Inter Milan because the Serie A powerhouse had dropped all five of its previous encounters at the Nou Camp. But what followed was a tense evening in which Barcelona appeared to be headed for elimination more than once.

Ousmane Dembele gave Barcelona the early advantage, but the visitors eventually grabbed the lead with to goals from Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez in the second half.
With a goal in the 82nd minute, Robert Lewandowski gave the Spanish team hope of an incredible comeback. However, with just one minute and additional stoppage time remaining, Robin Gosens scored what appeared to be the game-winning goal.
The signing of Lewandowski struck an equaliser in the 92nd minute to salvage a point, yet if Inter Milan can win in the San Siro the following week, it might only be a postponement of their elimination. Barcelona’s success in the Champions League has had well-documented financial repercussions.
