According to recent reports from Spanish media outlet Diario SPORT, Barcelona could be looking to offload another player to make more funds available. It has been confirmed that Jules Kounde could be on the exit route from the Catalan Club.
Kounde has had a solid start to life but could be unlucky enough to be sold due to reasons beyond the club’s pitch. The Frenchman was acquired on manager Xavi Hernandez‘s special request from Sevilla over a €50 million fee. Unfortunately, he could be a surplus in a team of defenders and upcoming academy talent.
However, Kounde might face a similar fate as his comrade Andreas Christensen who could also be axed. Barcelona are struggling to pay €30 million to Manchester City to make Joao Cancelo‘s loan move permanent, and the departure of either of the two players could help them with that.
Inigo Martinez, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, and Ronald Araujo have been at the forefront of the Barcelona defense. However, the club dubs Araujo ‘untransferable,’ while Kounde and Christensen have been injury-prone. Offloading the duo or one of them could be a strategic move that could help them with other plans but would still be a financial failure if they do not secure a reasonable price.
Barcelona look to activate buy-back clause for Real Betis defender
Barcelona has swiftly enacted plans to bring back 20-year-old center-back Chadi Riad from Real Betis, activating a €7 million buy-back clause. Sold to Betis for €3.5 million last summer, Riad’s impressive performances as a consistent starter caught the attention of Barcelona. This has led to the decision to reintegrate him into the squad for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
This proactive move underscores the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent and strategically positions them to consider potential departures. It also includes the prospect of selling one of their existing center-backs next summer to bolster financial resources.
Barcelona are deciding to bring Riad back because they think he can help the main team. This shows they’re looking ahead and want to use young talent. It fits with their plan to have a strong team and manage money well. This sets things up for an exciting summer transfer window.
