Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski fumed at Ansu Fati over possible match winning header in clash against Manchester United: Reports

Barcelona played Manchester United in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, losing 2-1 to the Red Devils. Erik Ten Hag’s side came from behind to score two goals, as they knocked Barca out of the tournament. Barcelona’s Ansu Fati missed a crucial chance to equalize late in the game, as he missed a header from a Ferran Torres’ cross. Polish striker Robert Lewandowski held talks with Fati after the game, pointing out that he should have let the ball go for Lewandowski, who had a much better position to score.

Lewandowski was frustrated with Ansu Fati, as they missed a crucial chance which cost them the tournament. Lewandowski went to Ferran Torres, complaining about the chance, explaining that he was in a great position to score. He also complained about the incident to Jordi Alba, one of the veterans in the squad.

This was the second time that Ansu Fati interfered with Lewandowski’s play. Fati also took away a scoring chance from the Polish striker in the La Liga match against Real Betis. The match ended in a 2-1 victory to Barcelona on February 1, and the error went unnoticed. Media outlet AS reported that Lewandowski confronted Ansu Fati politely in the locker room. Lewandowski pointed out the fact that this was the second time that Fati cost them a goal. He also advised the young Spaniard to be more focused. Fati acknowledged the poor chance, assuring that he did not notice Lewandowski’s position behind him.

The penalty, however, was criticized by United fans, as Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde went down in the box very easily.

The hosts had the last laugh, as they scored two goals to turn the game around in the second half, knocking Barca out of the competition. Alejandro Garnacho, United’s rising starlet did not leave Xavi‘s side alone, as he mocked Pedri, imitating the Barcelona midfielder’s celebration after the final whistle. Garnacho also posted the celebration post on his Instagram, with the caption, “The big team advanced.”

Manchester United will be in high spirits after their Europa League victory, while Barcelona looks to bounce back from the defeat. The Blaugrana are 8 points clear on top in La Liga. Xavi’s side plays Almeria in their next match in La Liga on February 26.
