Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to hold talks with Nagelsmann as they see him as a perfect candidate to replace Conte
Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly planning to hold talks with Julian Nagelsmann. Bayern Munich axed him. And Tottenham’s uncertainty reigns over the future of current head coach Antonio Conte. As per reports, in a previous attempt by Spurs to discuss the manager’s position with the German coach, they were informed that he has a soft spot for the north London club – raising hope that he may consider joining. Bayern sacked Nagelsmann on Friday evening and replaced him with former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. He had also been on Tottenham’s list of possible successors to Conte.
The fresh availability of Nagelsmann has put Tottenham chiefs on red alert as they continue to plan for life without Conte. Spurs have twice considered Nagelsmann for their manager’s role. The most recent time was in 2021 following the departure of Jose Mourinho. But at that point he was well down the road to Bayern Munich. And a deal didn’t materialize.
However, two years on Spurs are ready to revisit their long-term interest in the former RB Leipzig boss. This move would undoubtedly excite the fanbase. Conte remains absent from Tottenham training on Friday. And confusion are growing over whether or not he will return to England. Players and staff at Tottenham expect Conte to lose his job. But there was a feeling that his departure would have been formalized by now.
Talks over the terms of the Italian’s exit have begun. This seems to be a clear sign of Tottenham’s intentions. But Conte, despite not being in the country, is still Spurs manager as it stands. Ryan Mason and Cristian Stellini have been taking training in Conte’s absence this week. But chairman Daniel Levy knows he will have to provide clarity on who will be in charge of the team for next weekend’s trip to Everton.
