Bayern Munich & Senegal talisman Sadio Mane set to miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup due to injury

Due to the injury sustained during Tuesday’s match against Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane is likely to miss the World Cup. Leroy Sane came off the bench to replace Mane as the team won 6-2. Mane started the game but only played for 20 minutes before limping off with what appeared to be a minor injury.

Dino Toppmoller, Bayern’s assistant, said after the game that Mane was hopeful the injury would not be serious: He got hit in the leg, which caused a little nerve pain. Nothing too serious. His participation in the World Cup shouldn’t be in jeopardy.”

L’Equipe reports that Mane has actually had a tendon injury and won’t be ready for the World Cup in time. Mane is no longer believed to make the cut for Senegal manager Aliou Cisse’s World Cup squad, which is a major setback for the African nation. Mane has made 92 appearances for his nation, scoring 33 goals throughout that time, and is renowned for leading Senegal to victory at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
