Italian players such as Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Fagioli have come under scrutiny after involving themselves in a ‘betting scandal’. The players are facing severe repercussions for their actions by the Italian football federation. Tonali was dealt a 10-month ban while Fagioli was dealt a slightly reduced sentence at 7 months. The duo admitted their involvement in betting on their former clubs – AC Milan and Brescia (for Tonali) and other clubs (for Fagioli).
As the betting scandal in the country (Italy) rolls on, another player, Alessandro Florenzi, has come under the lens of alleged betting accusations. He remains an important player for Milan, starting 5 games and coming off the bench in as many games as well.
Keeping in mind that Tonali and Fagioli have been given 10 and 7-month bans, the player is waiting on his future. It is also understood that the soccer federation may also initiate an inquiry into the matter.
The player was also part of the Euro Cup-winning squad in 2021 and has 2 years left on his AC Milan contract. Club authorities have not commented on the issue as of yet.
