BREAKING: £90 million Lionel Messi XI vs Cristiano Ronaldo XI game reportedly proposed at Wembley

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in action.

News broke out some days ago that a £90 million All-Star game including Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo was set to take place and was proposed but in the end was canceled. The two modern greats of football and arguably the very best to ever grace football, Messi and Ronaldo have shared the stage at the top of the football for the last 15 years and also share 12 Ballon D’or among themselves.

Their goalscoring records and magic moments on the magic shall always be written in the history books of football and it’s a shame that we haven’t seen them play a match together yet, not even share a dinner table together yet as well as told by Ronaldo. At the time when the match was been planned, both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were at the peak of their career at Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

Robert Bonnier had this unbelievable idea of planning a dream game where both the greats would choose their own squads. The multi-million dollar match was set to take place in England at Wembley Stadium which has a capacity of 90,000 seats. The fixture was planned to take place in summertime every two years during the season break.

David Piper, a TV producer that was hired by Bonnier also said that the rumors were true and that the match was, “very close” to happening but was called off due to many obstacles coming it’s way. He also shared the insight that Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez demanded a staggering sum of £21 million for the participation of any of his players.

While Bonnier had the vision and his dream was just a few steps from turning into reality and he also wanted Messi’s team to wear Adidas kits given his ties to them, while Ronaldo’s side would be wrapped out in the Nike jersey. He wanted to make it a grand spectacle for fans all over the world, which would feature live performances, light shows, and also followed by a boxing fight.
