The Real Madrid boss was recently heard saying, “I think NO ONE will use nine this season.” With such a cheeky statement, he has clarified that Joselu, their newly signed striker, might not inherit their French star Karim Benzema’s jersey. With another French star linked to the Spanish club for almost two seasons now, could this also hint at him joining next season?

Kylian Mbappe had earlier said that he loves Real Madrid and would not be against a move in the future. Ancelotti also added, “I’m satisfied with this squad, and I’m excited about it. I’ve seen some great things in the pre-season, and all the players seem very upbeat, very enthusiastic and are working very well. They’re very committed. We believe and desire to compete and fight all season long.”

Ancelotti further stated that even tho they were affected by Thibaut Courtois’s injury, they would be in the market for a new keeper. As far as the attack is considered,, he seems pretty satisfied with his arsenal of Vinicius JR., Rodrygo, and Joselu. He also added how fluid he was, not sticking to just 4-3-3 formation but also something new and attack-driven like 4-2-3-1.

As the season starts, Ancelotti’s words could also answer how Madrid might not be interested in signing a new number 9. Karim Benzema recently left Madrid for Saudi, having achieved legendary status with the club. Madrid has always been blessed with a team that creates and converts when needed, so without a recognized striker, it will be a massive season for them to adapt and perform.

It’s not a forgotten story that Madrid has got legendary jersey numbers. From icons like Ronaldo Nazario to Karim Benzema, the club has been blessed with unbelievable forwards. Even Cristiano Ronaldo wore the number 9 jersey when he moved to the club.

There have been some trademark victories pivoted through the players who wore this iconic number. However, it would be fair to say that Benzema had since been the only player to have won the ballon dor while using the number for the club.

Will Madrid get another legendary number nine this season, or will Ancelloti’s words prove like a new fire for a new number nine?
