“I don’t look at how much a player earns,” Carlo Ancelotti on Eden Hazard getting less match time at Real Madrid
The Belgian has only made 3 La Liga appearances so far this season
Eden Hazard recently admitted the fact that he and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti are not on speaking terms anymore. The Belgian revealed the main reason being the fact that he isn’t being given enough game time.
Ancelotti, however, was rather blunt in his response to Hazard stating, “I’m not here to give each player minutes, I’m here to win games. I put the best starting eleven to win the game. I don’t look at how much a player earns or his age, it’s just about performances.”
The response comes after rumors of Ancelotti being relieved of his duties at the end of the season. The Real Madrid board is reportedly unhappy with the Italian and has plans to bring in a new manager at the start of next season.
Real Madrid currently stand nine points behind league leaders FC Barcelona as the La Liga title seems almost out of reach. As for the Champions League, the Los Blancos have been drawn on the tougher side of the quarterfinals with their opponents being Chelsea and possibly Manchester City or Bayern Munich in the semifinals if they progress.
Despite being Real Madrid’s record signing in 2019, Hazard has barely featured in games for the Los Blancos. Currently the highest earner in the club, the Belgian has only made three La Liga appearances so far this season.

A look at Eden Hazard’s numbers for Real Madrid
Real Madrid signed Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard in 2019 for a whopping €100 million which broke their transfer record. Remarkable things were expected of the Belgium when he was signed. However, it was not the case.
In 73 appearances for the club across four seasons, Hazard has scored a disappointing 7 goals and provided 11 assists. Since the start of 2023, he has only made one appearance for the Spanish giants. Rumors of him already moving to middle east have surfaced online. To what extent these rumors are true, only time will tell.
The Belgian’s contract is set to expire next summer. Until then, he looks set to stay on the bench as the highest earning player at the club with younger players like Vinicius Junior and Rodyrgo Goes thriving in his position.
