Chelsea clears roadmap to sell 14 players next season: Reports
Chelsea attempts to retrieve some funds after massive spending throughout the season
According to reports, Chelsea has put nine players on the transfer list as the Chairman attempts to retrieve some of their extraordinary spending this season. The Blues have brought in 17 players this season including record-breaking deals after the ownership of Todd Boehly. This included the transfers of World Cup winner and tournament’s best young player Enzo Fernandez, who was brought in for £106.8 million which is currently a British record transfer deal.
The club has spent a staggering $675.75 million so far this season with hopes to overturn the club’s fortunes and with hopes of climbing back the table as they currently stay a disappointing 10th in the Premier League. However, the first few games after their spending spree have been underwhelming for the club. The club’s coach Graham Potter faces selection problems as multiple players acquire the same positions in the team.
Chelsea has not spent their finances on the basis of what was required for the club rather it was to ensure that their rivals did not acquire the players and youth prospects that the club believes will ensure the future success of the club. For instance, Mykhailo Mudryk, the Ukrainian international was highly rumored to join London rivals Arsenal and was all set to join the club when the Blues swooped in for a higher price to attain his services when he was not really necessary for the club. Such poor decisions are vulnerable to huge blunders.
The players that are made available and could potentially leave Chelsea include the likes of Mateo Kovačić, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, César Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Conor Gallagher, Edouard Mendy, Hakim Ziyech and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Wesley Fofana’s header guarantees the three points for Chelsea
Chelsea has won 1-0 against Leeds United courtesy of a Wesley Fofana goal. The Englishman headed the goal in the 53rd minute to give a crucial three points for The Blues. Chelsea has been underwhelming this season since their changes in ownership and spending upwards of $600 million this season to bring in reinforcements. Their star players have not clicked to their best form and their new signings hardly brought any changes to the club’s fortunes.
With this win, Chelsea has ended their poor streak of six games without winning a match. The Blues will hope to overturn their season after their huge financial backing as they face the threat of finishing in one of the worst positions in the Blues’ history and are on the verge of not qualifying for any European Competitions. They could even suffer bankruptcy in future seasons if they don’t find a solution soon.
