Chelsea likely to begin negotiations with Reece James amidst interest from Real Madrid and Manchester City; contract expires in 2023
Reece James
Reece James, a defender, and Chelsea are reportedly getting ready to start contract negotiations. The right-back, who is 22 years old, still has three years left on his current contract, which he signed in January 2020.
However, given that he is now one of the top full-backs in the world, the Blues are eager to lock him down for the long term. Chelsea, according to iNews, want to lock him under a contract into his late 20s.
And by promising him a raise in his £80,000 weekly salary, they may persuade him to commit his future to Stamford Bridge. James reportedly has a “great admirer” in current owner Todd Boehly, who replaced Roman Abramovich as the club’s president.
Reece James to leave Chelsea?
James and Mason Mount’s contract negotiations were put on hold as Chelsea faced financial constraints as a result of Russia’s incursion of Ukraine.
But now that Real Madrid and Manchester City are both interested, they want to resume talks with James in the “coming few weeks.” He very recently began working out with Chelsea at the age of six.
In order to assemble a team that can contend for the Premier League championship, manager Thomas Tuchel will be eager to hang onto his adaptable defender for the near future.
At the end of the campaign, the Blues lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen at center defense. Romelu Lukaku has also rejoined Inter Milan after rejoining Chelsea for a club-record £97.5 million in just one season.
They have, however, reached a personal agreement to pay £50 million to acquire Raheem Sterling, a forward for Man City and England. Additionally, they have been linked to a number of other A-list athletes, such as Matthijs de Ligt, Neymar, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
